PQG
website (in french)
Partage Quebec Guinea (PQG) is a Quebec-based
organization that in its six years has collected and sent over 600 000 books to
Guinean school kids in over 1200 schools in Gaoul, Koundara, Mali, Lélouma, Télémélé, Fria, Koubia, Dinguiraye, Mandiana, Beyla, Lola and Yomou. It soon hopes to deliver books to students in Tougué, Dabola and Kourossa. This is a great organization, but it desperately
needs help. It's based in Quebec, the president is
a 65 year old man, and they've been
getting more books than they can handle.
They collect grammar books, dictionaries,
literature, sociology, philosophy, hygiene, and children's
books, written in French, from donations throughout
Canada. For a complete list see http://www.pqg.qc.ca/prep.html.
Each participating class receives 4 boxes of books,
about 200 books, and each teacher receives a Larousse
dictionary.
PQG needs money to buy boxes and maybe
to rent storage space, so they can pack the books
and ship them to Guinea. They also need money to pay
workers to help them pack the books. They don't need
shipping money. They get free shipping from Canada
to Wilmingon, N.C. from ALCAN, and then shipping on
to Guinea from the mining companies ALCOA and HALCO
MINING. (info
from their website)
Empty spaces in shipping boxes are
stuffed with goodies such as t-shirts, school supplies,
and toys.
Projects are evaluated by a committee
composed of members of PQG, a representative of CECI
(Centre Canadien de Coopération Internationale),
and a representative of the Minister of Education
in Guinea.
